The RG-1 S packs the fine grinding capacity and wear resilience of the full scale RG-1 into a small footprint that that can be incorporated into virtually any type of shingle recovery and recycling system. Its compact layout enhances the maintenance accessibility that is built into every Rotochopper grinding system, resulting in more consistent uptime.
Like the full-scale RG-1, the RG-1 S features a unique grinding chamber design that minimizes wear costs and downtime.
The wrap-around sizing screen, with over 5,000 square inches of screen surface, maximizes fine-grinding efficiency for achieving the small particle sizes required for many shingle recycling applications, such as hot-mix-asphalt supplement. The clamshell screen opens at the bottom to provide quick access to rotor teeth and screens.
The swept back rotor tooth design keeps shingle waste pushed outward against the screens, keeping the abrasive grinding process focused on the teeth and screens, rather than on the grinding chamber walls or wear liners.
Our exclusive rotating anvil (patent pending) force feeds shingle into the rotor for rapid, efficient size reduction.
For C & D sorting and recycling facilities that process tear-off shingles, the RG-1 S offers unmatched convenience for operating near picking lines. The gravity feed mill design virtually eliminates flying debris and helps contain cellophane tabs. Because shingles drop into the rotor from above, the feed system is separated from the grinding process, reducing spillage and wear.

The adaptability of the RG-1 S keeps operating costs low by limiting the number of power-driven systems required. The RG-1 S can be fed directly with an existing in-line conveyor. For companies that need complete feeding systems, the RG-1 S can be equipped with the infeed system of the full-scale RG-1, which features a wide hopper, agitator, and load leveler. The RG-1 S can be configured with various discharge conveyor options to fit space restrictions and product handling needs. For companies that grind tear-off shingles, a cross belt magnetic conveyor is available to separate ferrous metal like roofing nails.
This combination of remarkably low wear rates and ease of maintenance results in the consistent uptime that is critically important for transfer stations, MRFs, and other shingle recovery and recycling operations. The major end markets for recycled asphalt shingles—hot-mix asphalt supplement and boiler fuel—require steady supplies of an engineered finished product. For stationary shingle sorting and grinding systems, the RG-1 S consistently delivers the specifications these markets need, with minimal hassle and operating costs.
For over 15 years, recycling facilities have trusted Rotochopper stationary electric-powered grinding systems to provide consistent uptime and ease of maintenance for processing wood waste and other low-grade resources. When we introduced the RG-1 purpose-built shingle grinder, we offered a new way of processing shingle waste: an approach to grinding shingles that didn’t involve constant wear-related downtime. The RG-1 S now combines the steady uptime of our electric grinding systems with the wear resilience of Rotochopper shingle grinding technology.
We offer 5 separate shingle grinder models to match the diverse needs of the evolving shingle recycling market (the RG-1 and B-66 SP are available in diesel and electric versions).
